Which 5e3 to go for? And with an fx loop?

Obvious options on here are Modulus Amps kit and build it myself, the 5e3 from the Classifieds, or the Tweed 15 from Rift Amps. Any recommendations on these or others? Anyone added an fx loop or know of reasons why not to?

Effects loop won't give you much as these amps are all about the power amp and the drive from there.  You'll colour the effects and get the same result as just going in the front.
This is not an official response.

Ah thanks, so would that apply to a spring reverb tank too?

If you're talking about my Tweed Deluxe from the classifieds, speak to me soon as I'm considering part-exchanging it.

When I spoke to Jesse enquiring about an FX loop into the lazy J he said pretty much the same thing, basically the fx loop clouds the sound.

I was looking at the Modulus kits today, they look very good value.  I'd prefer the Ampmaker style step-by-step build and testing guides though, but I may give one a go, they are fairly simple amps.  Pity Ampmaker don't do a 5E3.

MJW is probably your best non kit option btw, I've heard and played a few of Martin's Deluxe's and they sounded ace.

I did check his site but couldn't see anything that looked like a 5e3...

It's under tweed amps. He calls it a Bluesman 18w. I have one, it's freakin awesome.

The right way to use effects and reverb with a 5E3 is…

Guitar into Fender Reverb unit; reverb unit into 5E3; line out from 5E3 into FX; FX into other much larger amp.

So much wisdom. Greatest classic 5E3 currently available IMO.
