The Lo-Fi Sound...

... You get from those old Silvertones... any pointers on which current low wattage amps give this kind of thing - I heard a Vintage47 suitcase amp that did it pretty well but wondered what else was out there...

Just for the hell of it, here's Jack White kicking the crap out of his Silvertone (with a pile of fuzz at first)

I am generally trying to get this kind of sound all the time and it is really hard, nothing quite like it - closest I've got with an amp is in fact with a Vox amp and some eq fiddling. Other than that the JHS Twin Twelve pedal sounds pretty darn good boosting a clean amp

Edit: here's a lovely Andy from pgs demo

Love the Silvertone sound - I get mine from a Lumpy's Tone Shop M24 pedal

Great garage rock tone and splatty as anything with fuzz
    Stop crying, start buying

These amps were amazing, the 1458 that Jack White used has 10 tubes! Back in 1963 it coat $240 which is almost $1900 in today's money so it wasn't even cheap.
