Lazy J 20 vs Lazy J 20H, is there much difference?

Has anyone done a direct comparison between the J20 and the J20H? I know the H has higher clean headroom (via a bigger transformer?) but I'm wondering what the tonal difference might be and any other differences between the sound of the two amps? Is the circuit essentially the same etc? I mentioned this issue very briefly in a phone call with Jesse ages ago and I think I recall him saying there's quite a difference tonally between the two. Grateful for all contributions and any real life experiences. Thanks.

I've not played the H.  You might get a better response if you move the thread to the Amps section.

Yes, Nigel, I've had both. I didn't find them THAT different to be honest. I've done this subject to death before on various threads in the past, have a search, lots of info from other owners too :-)

Ok thanks, I've had a browse, the verdict seems to be: more clean headroom but not masses more, a slightly tighter, snappier sound, a touch more Blackface?

That's why the only upgrade for me at the moment is a J40. Except I have not enough money or need for one. Damn that one in the classifieds is barking at me

I wouldn't call it an 'upgrade' to be honest David, in my experience it's a totally different beast.

No just reverb. Didn't see the point as I have a Trem pedal on my board already

Haven't ruled it out Neil – maybe one day. I might get a Trem module installed too
