I've got a Jazzmaster body for a good price from guitarbuild.co.uk (see this thread for details!).

I've got a Strat copy neck (that cost the princely sum of £30 inc P & P from China) knocking about which I'll use initially.

Items on the shopping list:

1. a set of these pick-ups from Mojo - I may just wire them up with two 500k pots for tone and volume and leave the rest of the controls unwired.

2. one of these pickguards.

3. one of these tremolos.

4. one of these bridges.

Just have to decide what paint to use between Wudtone Surfer Girl or a spray can from Northwest Guitars - opinions gratefully received!

Usually, I'd say that the solid colour was best but the grain is really nice on that - I'm going to have to say Wudtone
    Stop crying, start buying

I'm quite interested in seeing what the Surfer Girl finish looks like on a Jazzmaster. Maybe I'm in luck!
My wife asked me to stop singing Wonderwall.
    I said maybe.....

Tung oil. Make it a Elvis Costello tribute.

Stop with the rubbing stuff on guitar bodies.. Do it justice mate, spray the thing. If you're not confident spraying by all means drop me a line and I'll talk you through it.

  • I live jazz masters and looking forward to see how this turns out. All the best. What colour are you thinking?

Think it's gonna be surf green bud - unless I have a major change of heart!

Bridge and tremolo have arrived (I realise the bridge is back to front in the photo!):

  • With a white scratchplate I'd go for a sparkly red finish or maybe a metallic sparkly black?

Are you refinishing the neck?. It's looks quite orangy in the photos.
Can't sing, can't dance, can handle a guitar a little.

Don't like metallic finishes - could be tempted by a dakota red though!

It is very orange at the minute - I'll be painting the front of the headstock to match the body. Not too bothered about the back!

Matching headstocks look great on offsets. Good choice.

Jazzmasters look amazing in Dakota Red. I've always wondered why Fender seems to favour Fiesta Red more, because it's nowhere near as nice.

Well after much humming and harring I've decided to paint the guitar in translucent surf green, as the grain of the wood is nice I thought it best to show it off a bit! I'm going for this type of finish:

So the next question is - what spraycans will I need? I'm keen on a mild relic finish.

I'm guessing I'll not need primer as that'll hide the grain but what about sealer? Is it necessary for a non-pristine finish?
