For a stack, I absolutely love the old Marshall plexi look, but could also be quite partial to a dark blue tolex. The Laney lionheart range is beautiful.

I had the choice of any tolex and grill cloth when I had my amp made. And this is what I chose. Still love it 2 years on.

It doesn't show very well in the picture but it's black western tolex and vintage basket weave

I like all of those colours...  not sure about all on the same amp though

My Orange stuff (with orange tolex) sometimes looks a bit out of place in a sea of black, but Orange amps are just supposed to be orange - the black (or even white) ones are wrong somehow.

I like the look of Fender black- or silver-face amps and older Marshalls.  Quite like the VOX diamond grille cloth as well.  Not so keen on light colours (yes I know I've got an orange one!)

I may be biased as I choose them but my black tweed with vintage beige cloth on my Satellite Barracuda and cab along with the Herringbone tweed reverb tank are pretty spot on for my taste:

To tolex or not to tolex will impact on the sound. More importantly, and don't laugh, choice of grill cloth does make a difference on sound transmission, a heavy basket weave effectively dulling all those nasty treble tones, when a light silk-like cloth will let them all through. I was astonished with the sound difference when I swapped grill cloths on a 4x12 to my dismay and soon after swapped back.
Cab choice, size, material, construction, speakers and grill cloth should all be taken into consideration as they are paired to their amp head.
