Look I know I'm going to get bloody ripped to shreads on here for bringing this up... but does anyone else think the solo on The Fly is a bit of alright/tasty!!
I've listened to this album on/off since it's release in 91... just don't know what it is but I always find myself going back to it.

It's utterly brilliant. Especially the live version from the Boston 2001 dvd, played in A instead of E.

My favourite U2 album by far. First time I heard The Fly on the radio it blew me away, such a dense sound.

I like it too, although I like the one in Love Is Blindness even more.

This is the version I was referring to. It's the main reason I wanted a delay pedal when I first start playing and I absolutely adore it 15 years on.

Agreed - it sounds phenomenal in that tuning.

Yep! That's what a loved about my old M13 before I flipped it... The Edge preset was very close to his tone.

Yeah, I love that solo, and agree that the Elevation version in A is cracking. Actually, the studio recording is one of my favourite mixes ever because everything about it is strange - the wierd bell loop, everything distorted, the ring of the snare, the strange hollow cocked wah guitar riff... love it. The solo kinda gets lost when the final chorus comes back in to the point where you can't *quite* hear what he's playing, and I think that's part of its charm.

Apparently when the Edge played the solo in the studio, he thought it was a bit naff and thought he was still in the process of trying stuff out. But at the end of the take everyone in the room loved it and told him he was done.

IIRC, the sound is mostly korg A2?

Had to go back and listen again.....'course that entailed adding it so I can listen in the car. Looks like I have a U2 resurgence happening courtesy of this thread. Ta!
