Little amp

What's Hot

I'm looking for a little practice amp to use at home, something small, I don't need anything bigger as I already have a Marshall amp but that's too big for the room available.

Also, ideally, I want to keep the costs down so not to expensive. Can anyone recommend me a some please?

  • The obvious answers are something like a Blackstar ID Core or Yamaha THR.  The Blackstars are cheaper and pretty good IMO (I've got a Core 10).  There's also various other little modellers from Vox, Marshall etc that would fit the bill.

^ yup.  I'm very happy with my THR10. The THR5 can be had a bit cheaper and the Blackstars are cheaper still ( haven't played one though)

The Yamaha is great but played the Blackstar ID Core in GG recently and was blown away for a good starter or practice amp

I'd go with the Fly 3 stack... nice gain and delay on it too...plus you can use it for mp3/ipod & headphones. Use it for laptop speakers too. And for £80 the lot...having the ext speaker really makes a difference. I prefer it to the THR10C

Yamaha THR10 is great but Blackstar Fly 3 is unbelievable for the price. I've got both.

If you don't need loads of effects, the Pignose is a great little amp once you learn how to use it properly.

Another one for the Blackstar Fly. I love this little thing.
For sofa noodling I've found nothing better, including THR etc.
It responds like a real amp in minuture and doesn't try that modeller one-step-removed processed/recorded sound that is superficially fine but horrible under the fingers.

Yamaha thr - just playing through mine now learning some songs for tomorrow - so quick and easy to get a sound I like.

Hmmmm, i'm wondering if it'd be OK to use the iPad (along garageband, etc..) would be better as I already have one. Anyone else use the internal speakers of the iPad as a mini amp?
