alternative tae Virgin TV

What's Hot

if I go ahead and get rid of my landline and Virgin TV, what else is out there tae keep Hooters happy?

I'm not up tae date with these new fangled gizmos.....we have an outside aerial for reception but it is never used because of the Virgin connection....are all the new TV boxes dependant on an outside aerial for a good crisp reception?

see, my outside TV aerial reception is not GREAT

what do we have in the form of a one off, pay upfront ,box with no weekly/monthly payments?

  • shame, a Humax Freesat box would have been ideal if you had.

probably get the best BBand you can then and rely on streaming everything.

Digital boxes need a good signal or you'll get all sorts of breakup - it's a pain.

is the fitting of a dish and freesat doable?

An intro deal to Sky maybe cheaper than you think and you would get a free dish

    but possibly worse broadband...

thing is hoots for free tv you are either going to need a dish or good aerial.. or you are going to stream which means a good solid bband which you will probably find Virgin is going to be the best answer so negotiating a better deal with Virgin will probably be your best option.

I bought an external freeview HD aerial and put it in my loft. Is that an option?

I *think* that only works in certain areas (ie ones that have a strong signal) - not sure how you would check but worth a chat with a local aerial firm who would know?

Virgin is tops for broadband speed here, I have KODI installed on an oldish PC running Ubuntu & stream everything. plenty of youtube "How to" vids to set it up. I can watch everything from TV to films for a one off payment of bugger all. :)

I have Plusnet fibre broadband (26 quid a month) and use Kodi to stream anything I want. Also means I can watch every Premier League game, rather than just the ones Sky or BT would let me.

With the Freesat thing I think you are better off getting the cheapest Sky TV package for a year as they will install a dish for you.  Once your year is up then cancel and use the dish with Freesat.

As @strumjoughlamps said keeping the Virgin broadband and streaming everything may be a better option.

NowTV and Netflix are both great for streaming, lots of trials around to get you started. These are both legal, unlike Kodi which keeps getting recommended.
