Jawari problems

Has anyone tried to build a jawari sitar circuit?
i've built this one over the past two days and whilst it works of a sort, the sitar effect is very very slight.
i'm using a b10k pot and the effect seems to range from a boost type till about half way when a slight sitar effect kicks in along with a slight distortion.
Carry on turning it clockwise and the sound and the effect goes quiet.
i've followed the schematic, checked all my soldering and its fine.
any thoughts?

Yeah it doesn't work very well. Tim Escobedo's circuit snippets (which this is from) were a collection of just that, schematics to be used to build other things. The Jawari on it's own sadly doesn't get you a sitar sound. More of a somewhat sitarish effect, if you like.

  • What part of the circuit causes the effect and what effect do the diodes have?

I never really looked into what and why it does what it does as it wasn't very useful to me. You hit the jfet first which is boosting your signal. The pot controls the level of that essentially, which then runs into the audio transformer. As I say, these aren't really designed as stand alone effects as such. They're just modules. Here's a link to all of them, there are more notes on the Jawari. http://www.jiggawoo.eclipse.co.uk/guitarhq/Circuitsnippets/snippets.html

  • Thx @juansolo listening to the samples on there its actually similar to that just not such a prominent sitar type sound.
