Have signed up for the Hampton Court Half marathon. I've done a bit of running in the past but never a half and never an organised race. Bit nervous that the website says that headphones are not allowed. I always run with headphones - not blaring out so I am aware of my surroundings, but still a bit of a distraction from the effort/monotony of the running.
For those who do a bit of this sort of thing - are headphone bans generally enforced or is this just something they have to say? The Hampton court website seems a bit wishy washy (you won't be covered by our insurance etc).
What do others do? Should I just suck it up and get used to running without?

I'm doing the London triathlon next year though, so I need to get used to it.
A lot of big events have taken to banning headphones now so there is a bit of a president to action being taken.
If I found out after I'd run without tbh but would struggle to do anything over 10k without my ear phones
Having done the great north run a few times I know they have ambulances going through the runners every now and again. This is probably one of the reasons they dont allow headphones.

Otherwise, just stick to the rules.
if they don't allow music take a tacoma narrows bridge disaster CD
I do also find it is great for improving my general frame of mind and controlling stress. Not so much thinking time as just letting the mind wander. Listening to music has always been a big part of that for me, but I'll give it a try without for a while.
