bought a 9v PS a few weeks ago from Maplin it appears tae to be a good buy

I'm now after a 12v ands the Maplin one is a little expensive by comparison....pic above
the Maplin job is also a no name made in China.....their stuff on this occasion is rather expensive compared tae a lot of the competition....is the Maplin one a step up in quality you think?

The Chinese factories will, in general, make things as well as you ask and pay them to. I've had good results with the supples that Rapid Electronics sell, fer instance:

And definitely go regulated unless the kit was specifically designed to use an unregulated supply (which is pretty rare).
Whenever I've used unregulated supplies they've been noisy and some make a weird whistling noise through certain pedals.
