The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

Warren Haynes. Not a fan of Les Pauls generally, but he makes me want one just a little bit.

    +1.
And it isn't just the one tone either, it's a whole pallette of great LP tones.

    Clapton on Fresh Cream

Peter Green- The Boston Tea Party stuff shows the full scope of what old school players could coax out of a Lester by riding tone and volume pots

    Danny Kirwan

    Gary Moore

    John Sykes

    Billy Duffy

    Mick Ronson

    Steve Clark

    JDB

    Jimmy Page

    John Squire

John McLaughlin on the first Mahavishnu record

Stuart Adamson when he used one. IIRC he had a tasty Les Paul 25/50 model at one point

I would say Jeff Beck, but though there's a ton of great tones on Blow by Blow I can never tell which is a straight Gib and what's the Tele-Gib

this has to be up there, although the main reason I usually watch this is to drool at the amazing backline. How much gear do they really need to play 5 songs in a TV studio?

    Kossoff!I forgot Koss.

Anything and everything off the Fire and Water album.

Again an absolute masterclass in going straight into an amp

I'm not for a moment going all luddite and saying old is best, but for otherwise unadorned tone this is a benchmark album for me.

    Alright Now- heavy OD

    Fire and Water- Crunch OD

    Oh I Wept- gorgeous simplicity.

Heavy Load- one of the great clean tones in British recorded history to date. Hank Marvin/ Peter Green quality.
A four bar solo that is as good as it gets in any genre of improvisation.

Here's another. Quinessential British-style Les Paul style playing: heavily overdriven Marshall, leaning back, biting yer lip, digging in and going for it. Bliss.
