What's Hot
i fancy a couple of nights on Dartmoor with the kids and the dogs.
Can anybody recommend the best area to pitch a tent not too long a wall from where we can park the car?

Try this website. All areas in purple are where you can camp

I'd recommend somewhere in Bellever area. There's a great forest in that area that I'm yet to explore (shall be doing so this October) but it looks amazing from the photos.

Also there's a place called Wistmans wood which is one of the nicest walks you can do in the park. Travel through Wistmans Wood towards Crow Tor and you can camp near there. The walk from the car park to Wistmans Wood is about an hour though.

Wistman's Wood is pretty special. The scenery around there is stunning.
I'd recommend a walk along Lydford Gorge too.
My wife asked me to stop singing Wonderwall.
    I said maybe.....

If the Kids are young...I'd recommend heading up to Becky Falls and camp halfway up hill in a lovely viewed area...then walk at Yarner woods with breakfast at Ullacombe Farm Shop near Haytor..If Kids are older then Burrator Resevoir is good but a bit more hardcore and camp near Princetown  :)

Dartmoor is always a disappointment: Massive Midgies, always a Bog in your way even in extended dry spells and weather is either extreme miserable or painful intensive heat

^Yeah, that's why the Military train there...it can get extreme so I'd defo recommend Dartmoor lite for younger/first time camping..They always say 'if you don't like the weather on Dartmoor, just wait 5 minutes'  :)

I love Dartmoor the most peaceful place, wild and rugged, and beautiful and so full of history. I did 10 tors 30 years ago.
Have been back often but have always rented a cottage, feel like a little camping trip before the weather turns.
Will probably camp at Crow Tor.

Took a boat trip along the Dartmoor Exmoor coast the other day. Stunning views. (It was a moor anyway).
