Why do glasses get so dirty quickly?

Yes. I had some made for a private cinema in the Middle East.

They are not a sensible purchase by most people's budgetary standards.

Yeah, Me too. Every 6 months or so I'd attack my glasses frames/ nose rest bits with a tissue and it was amazing the amount of green slime you'd get. Consequently my current glasses don't have nose rests as per @octatonic 's photo, and all is right with the world.
