MIJ Fender Pickguards

Am I right in thinking the MIJ plates are slightly different sizes to usa and mexican models?

I've got an early 80's '62 reissue jazz bass that I'm looking to put a tort guard on, anyone know a reliable and reasonably priced place to source one, preferably in the UK?

Cheers.

Theres a company on Amazon called 'MIJ pickguards' or somesuch - I've used them for a Jap Strat plate and it was 100% perfect.

  • Wd music sometimes have mij stuff too
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

These guys sell on Amazon and eBay - probably the same one that @impmann is talking about - and they seem to have jazz bass guards.

  • There's a seller on ebay who lists USA/Mex & MIJ versions for reasonable prices (I was looking for Jaguar guards but I think he had some Jazz Bass guards as well). There are several sellers there who have measurements of the screw hole distances etc, which might lessen the risk of getting a useless one.

  • it will fit but you will probably need to make some new screw holes

The guards may be a slightly different shape too.
I have a US guard on my Jaguar and it needed a bit of filing to make it fit. It doesn't look quite right either... So I bit the bullet and bought a replacement guard.
