Dual Graphics cards

I currently have a 750 Ti with two monitors (1080p) hanging off it.

Soon I will have a GT 640 that will become free.

Obviously SLI is not supported but I was wondering if a stuck the card in my PC with the secondary monitor hanging off it, would I get some performance improvement in Games (mainly Elite Dangerous), I like having two monitors as I can read the various elite forums whilst I'm space trucking.

    Doesn't the 750Ti have three outputs - DVI-I, DVI-D and mini HDMI?

I'd be inclined to think that two non-matching cards is likely to cause you significant grief, to the point that three monitors on the 750 may be more successful than two on the 750 and one on another card.

  • You won't see any improvement in ED, realistically-speaking. The amount of memory used by your second monitor is negligible compared to the RAM available, and the CPU will be doing more work to support whatever's on the other monitor than the 750 Ti will be.

You might see an improvement in other games, if you use the 640 for PhysX processing. However, it's so much slower than the 750 Ti that even then it might actually make things worse rather than better.
