Shootout Sunday - KOT vs Broadcast/EP vs Accountant/El Cap vs Timeline/ FX8 & AX8 vs The Lot !

  • 100% agree with the El Cap being a keeper over the TL. As much as I loved the Timeline, I inevitably had to let it go.
I kept both - and haven't had any delay GAS since.
    That's a good compromise! ;-)

Warren - when you compare the timeline and el cap - have you triedFTT Flight time?

I'm tempted to make a more trad board and debating between a providence chrono and el cap pair vs a timeline  vs a flight time.

  • When considering the FTT, worth considering a second hand Nova Delay, honestly. Great pedal.

It's the midi on the flight time and timeline that put them on the list,   The nova is a great pedal but switching between presets is a bit awkward imo.

  • @John_P I agree with that mate.

  • I still think the Flight Time is one of the best 'clean' delays I've tried; superior, imho, to the Chrono.

I simply struggled with the lack of knobs; it was a pain to dial in, esp on the fly... I think switching between presets involved a clumsy 2 switch press - if I remember correctly (?)

  • Exactly why I couldn't get on with it. Found the Nova easier to dial in. But yes, the Flight Time was cleaner sounding, indeed.

Yes thats right but I would use a loop switcher and change presets via midi but I can see the TL gives quicker direct access.

  • Fulltone SSTE tape delay and EP all in one (slightly larger footprint than the EP though!)

Flight time no better than the vintage mode on the Boss dd500 imo, I spent a lot of time comparing them as that's a crucial sound for me and the Boss just sounds epic.

I am curious about the boss but I think I have just had enough of the delay merry go round. At £200 ish it's not a lot
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

Yup, best off out of it. I love the boss, but still look at the Nemesis with envious eyes. It's ridiculous.

  • I've gone h9 and not really thought about it at all.
In fact I have halved the size of my pedal board

  • I must agree with @Teetonetal the Boss DD500 remains one if the best delays I've tried...

the he presets are not great but by adjusting the parameters I'd got to the point where I could copy any delay sound

  • So what about the ax8 and fx8 vs the lot? How did they do?

Personally I think the delays (and reverbs and mods) on the fx8 and ax8 stack up against any pedal I've ever tried, including the el cap and the timeline, bigsky etc. Some of those pedals might do slightly different things that aren't quite on the ax8 (cloud reverb on the bigsky for example) but the ax8 can usually get very close (shimmer is a good example - no dedicated mode as such but easy to recreate).

  • Thanks for the breakdown. Really interested in those units. Particularly using the fx8 with an amp. If it had loops for those few must have pedals, I'd be 100% sold.

@John_P - Im not sure mate, as I wasn't on the list. Ive only ever seen 2, and Ive owned both of them ! This has the high gain on the red side...
Or you've owned the same one twice...

I would totally concur re the FTTFT and Chrono and I also agree that the FTTFT is a mare to set up.

TL- sorry, I still don't get them.
