Hi there,
i'm not sure if this is the right place for this query. but does anyone know of anybody reliable in the north east area (newcastle and surrounding area) who can service my amp?  Ive not long had it and would like to get it all checked over etc so that i can start my ownership of this amp on a good note.i found one site but they haven't responded to me so i wanted to know if anyone can be recommended who deals with these kind of amps?

I just dropped off a Silverface at Stoneham Amps. I'll find out if they are any good when I get it back next week!

There is a guy in the Old George Yard opposite Brian Younger's guitar shop who I believe services/repairs amps but unfortunately I don't have his name or phone number, also it might be worth giving Maughn Amps a ring I'm not sure whether they are in Wallsend or Jarrow but the phone number is 0191 2625613.hope this helps.

Unfortunately I don't but I have had amps repaired by a small company in Washington called Vamps.I think it's in Old Washington Village but whether they're still doing repairs/servicing I don't know as it's over 10 years ago.

  • I have used Maughan Amps several times.

These days the repair side of the business is called MAC Electronics (run by Michael Maughan). They moved some months ago from Jarrow to South Shields. The current Phone Number is 0191-447-0340.
    Address :The Old Chapel,
                    8, Derby Terrace,
                   South Shields. NE33 4PN

  • If you are really struggling and don't mind a trek down to North Notts, I would happily look at it for you, Funnily enough I have just got a 1969 drip edge SF Super Reverb in, which was imported from the US, for a UK transformer swap and service.

  • ive had many amps before but always been new and not had them long enough to consider servicing so im just wary of who does it thats why i was hoping on recommendations it a job for a specialist or will most amp servicers be able to sort it out?

  • It is certainly worth finding out if they have worked on old BF, SF Fenders before as they can be a bit quirky, things like dealing with eyelet board tracking issues, or fixes for noisy trems etc. All things we learn the hard way through experience.

I'd definitely recommend Stoneham. Think they're in the recommended amp tech's already.
