  • I wrote a lengthy blog post about this very subject a couple of years ago

    http://davedoesntwriteanythingever.blogspot.co.uk/2014/11/how-to-have-your-generation-x-midlife.html

I decided to write a novel for my midlife crisis, it's gone quite well (see my sig if you are tempted to read it)

Blatant self-promotion on internet forums is quite mid-life crisisy as well
    :)

    Gardening.

    Or Golf.

Nah, those are just the behaviours of someone who has given up. For a MLC you need to harbour some hope of having a cooler life.
Depends on the level of obsession ;)

Imagine something sharp and witty here ......

  • Get down with the kids and become a master at Pokemon Go!  You might however, get put on some kind of register if you do it too much.

  • Fly fishing is my mid life crisis. Its low risk, you can drink while you do it, and there's no one talking to you so its quiet.

A friend of mine took up photography and hillwalking, seemed to work very well for him but he hates being anywhere near other people:

  • Take up free running and start doing it at random places round your nearest village/town centre.  If you can't somersault, backflip, climb, leap huge distances or walk on your hands, just start off with some gentle rollie pollies on a verge.

Cycling and massive cameras that take 10 minutes per photo "to get the aperture spot on" seem to be order of the day in my office for mid lifers.
Those are my hobbies! Sounds like I've already had a MLC aged 31  :-S
Always be yourself! Unless you can be Batman, in which case always be Batman.
My boss told me "dress for the job you want, not the job you have"... now I'm sat in a disciplinary meeting dressed as Batman.

Take your own arrows though - the ones they give you won't go through butter.

  • I've started colouring in, with my 2-year old son's colouring books and crayons. It's really cathartic.

I think there is a difference, subtle, between having a true mid life crisis, and doing nobby things that middle aged blokes do.

For example, I'm not having a crisis, not at all, but I am feeling the draw to buying a two seater car. THen I will be "AN other middle aged nob in a 2 seater, thinking he's cool, but actually isn't". sort of thing.

    but not caring.

This is the important point, whatever it is you choose to do.
Shot through the heart, and you’re to blame, you give love a bad name. Not to mention archery tuition.
