Yay! my premium bonds won for the 4th time ever in about 12 years.

As with all the others, it was the minimum prize of £25. Just once in 12 years it would be nice to be blessed with a bit more, especially as the top prize is £1m. Oh well, here's hoping for next time .....

  • I was expecting a Lottery related thread.
I got an email last weekend-
"Exciting news about your ticket!! Please log in to find out more"

    I log in...£25. Not £2500, £25000 or £2500000
That's not exciting news, it's interesting news.

More annoying when it's the minimum, like £3

Here's how I look at it:  I find £25 in the road when I'm basically only expecting to find a Pokeéon Squirtle.
    I'm excited.
Maybe I have a low threshold of excitement.

My mum has had premium bonds for something like 50 years and has never won a brass farthing. Think she'd be delighted with £25.

Yeah... I play lottery regularly and I gey those "exciting" news pretty often too. Well, not as often as I'd like too but every time - you log in - your account details are loading and...? You've won one free lucky dips ;-)

  • Oddly, when I used to work in banking, I'd have customers regularly depositing several premium bonds cheques, all minimum amount. But usually 2-3.
    Most months.

I used to win most months when I had several thousand pounds invested. Only ever £25 at a time, maybe £50 once.

Now I've got maybe £50 in premium bonds (the rest went on a deposit for my house) and I can't remember the last time I won anything.

  • I've had a £25 and a £50 pound prize from Premium Bonds in the past. Given that banks are paying virtually no interest at all these days plus it's tax free, anything should be gratefully received.

me too - had my 4th £25 of the year just last week... I too grapple with the envelope when it arrives in hope that the payout is at least 100k

Over past 10 years+ I seem to get a clockwork 1% return on my stake annually which makes money tied up in them a safe bit of fun. But Oh the days when the minimum was £50 !

Most fun was when one day I had 2 envelopes on the door mat then another the following day!

This £25 went towards a recon PCB for my bloody central heating boiler though angry

I've got £5k tucked away in premium bonds and in the past 12 months they have paid out seven £25 prizes. That equates to a return of 3.5% tax free. I don't know of any savings accounts that achieve anything like that interest rate these days (although some banks tempt new customers with that sort of rate but it only applies to fairly small maximum balances).

Sure, I could equally have got nothing from the bonds but the past few years they have given me at least five £25 prizes each year and there's also been a couple of £50 prizes. In contrast my bank has just reduced the interest rate on their savings accounts to a really pathetic 0.05%. Not long before they charge to look after your money I reckon.

  • My Dad had premium bonds for years and had no luck until he finally won £50 six months after he died. He would have laughed!

What I like about Premium bonds is the 'chance' that you could win big (eg £10K+) without it actually costing anything. The chance is always ticking over in the background ....
