Gibson es335 Nashville custom shop - price advice

What's Hot
hi there, I have a Nashville custom shop es335 in mint condition with factory fitted bigsby and just wondered what it's 2nd hand price would be? It's a vintage sunburst colour all original condition. Let me know if I'm breaking any rules here,
Cheers

Is it a 59 or 63 reissue, or a dot reissue, what year is it, what are the pickups, do you have the COA, is it in the original case etc etc...? And can you post some pics?!

Sorry yeah that'd be helpful, it's a 59 dot reissue, 57 classics, got all coa, case, case candy etc and its 2012.

  • That's more like it. What's the neck like, slim or fat, and can you post some pics?

Is a "Nashville Custom Shop ES-335 '59 Reissue" the same as a "Nashville '59 Historic Reissue"?

I think they're different but I get rather confused by it all. (And I used to think Les Paul model names were confusing!)

The guitars produced by Gibson's Nashville custom shop had the Historic designation. They also had a different serial number format to the Memphis so-called Custom Shop guitars. Here's a typical Nashville Historic:

    http://www.coda-music.com/gibson-custom-historic-nashville-1959-es335-vintage-sunburst-p-24203.html

That one has the Custom Bucker pickups but some had Classic 57s, as @guitarmansteve77 says his has.

Depending on condition and finding the right buyer the used value could be anything from £2,800 to around £3,300. I've seen some silly prices asked for them but they're probably not what they actually sell for. I've also seen more than one seller trying to pass off Memphis guitars as Nashville ones.

That's presuming it is a Historic model.

The serial number will tell all ;)

  • That's true. The label with the s/n should also have Nashville on it somewhere.

That's good. The serial number with an A- prefix should be on that label but no s/n on the back of the headstock. All being good, the value should be as indicated in my previous post unless any of the guitar dealers here think otherwise. A more precise value depends on its condition and how it plays/sounds. The new Memphis ES-335s are so good now that buyers need convincing to spend more money on a used Nashville Historic.

Personally I think those values are on the optimistic side, for a private sale. I know that people ask that kind of money but you see those guitars listed again and again, ie they don't sell at those prices. Also, did 335s made in 2012 get laminated two-piece fingerboards like Les Pauls did? If so, that can have a detrimental effect on the used value. I'd still like to see some pics of the guitar and know what the neck profile is...

  • Have to agree with @fretfinder . If Coda are selling new at £3800, there's probably some wiggle room in that price for the buyer to get some kind of deal. I can imagine Coda selling a second hand one for £2800 to £3100... so private sale will probably bring in less than that (especially in today's market).

    Just my view.

Not a chance. £2,500 at the outside for a private sale and probably no more than £2,200 given that it's a 2012 model with a laminated fingerboard.

  • A year or so ago I sold my mid-noughties Nashville-made Historic '63 ES335 for £1800, after a long and protracted struggle involving a few price drops. I appreciate that the more modern Historics may be valued more highly but not by much I wouldn't have thought.
