Never been, but it looked STUNNING on the F1 coverage of the new road track. Never somewhere that had really been on my radar (bar a guest role in a James Bond film!) but is somewhere I would be intrigued to see. Looking forward to your report back, though my apologies for being absolutely no use! xD

I've touched down there but never got off the plane. The old British Midland flight from Tbilisi to Heathrow used to stop in Baku and fill up with oil workers who would get wrecked on the rest of the flight home. I've spent time in Georgia and Armenia but never Azerbaijan. Not a place I'd really want to to be honest. Baku is below sea level and a long way from the mountains which I think are the greatest attraction in the region.

A friend (well, someone who's on a WhatsApp group chat) is from there. She goes back once a year and sends back photos of how beautiful it's supposed to be. Unfortunately, her photos seem to be of shacks by dirt roads in the hills that could've been taken in any poor Eastern-European country.

However, I'm led to understand from other sources that it is a gorgeous place, so I'm pretty certain she just has rose-tinted specs about all aspects of her homeland, and you'll have a great time.
