To get all serious for a second.... I think the reason I got seriously into my music was the faint sense of parental disapproval I received.
My Dad was into football (well, Aussie rules) so of course I rejected that and found my own thing.

It is clearly early days but I wonder if your dedication to music will be something she grows up to appreciate as well, or if it will be something she rejects because it is what her Dad is into and she wants to find her own thing?

Either way I will be happy, as long as she follows the dreams she has and doesn't kowtow to other people's wankitude.

FWIW, my dad encouraged my music, and my mum didn't. He died, and I made a Laveyan Satanic promise to myself to honour him in some way - thus music became my life. That sounds deranged typed out, but it is true!

I remember an interview with Bjork where she said that her parents were super cool groovy hippy types who loved rock music and tried to teach her to play electric guitar and listen to Hendrix. Her form of rebellion was to only listen to classical music and never have any guitar on her records.

Not everyone rebels though, my folks aren't really music fans, but my old man's a big rugby fan and that's always een something that connected us, even when I was in my teens, we'd always sit down to watch the rugby/go the match.
