The plan for this one is a blue / silver flake surf burst style finish (with matching headstock) and some of the infamous Mojo JM pickups. Once I get the trem, bridge and tuners in place and holes drilled, it'll be off for paint.

I ordered a mint green guard, couple of questions.. is this greener than normal (was expecting it to be more subtle if I'm honest) and should the bridge holes be better aligned than this?

    My guess is you'll barely notice how green it is when there's a solid colour behind it.

  • the greeness of the mint really depends on the finish behind it.

    regarding the thimbles, as long as all the post hole is accessible through the plate you will be fine, the bridge will hide all of that and it wont be seen ;-)
    The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

    The guard on my JM is parchment coloured, as I'm not a fan of green guards personally.  They look great when they are real but the replicas rarely look 'right'.

    As said above, the bridge hides the holes for the thimbles. I had to file mine to fit properly but mine was an aftermarket guard and the bridge hides it all.

    Thanks @meltedbuzzbox and @impmann ;

    Might look at a different, less cheap and cheerful guard, as the green looks a bit ropey to me!

  • Mine is aged mint I think, if you are after that kind of thing.

    Fender do aged white for the jm pickup covers. If they do a scratch plate in that colour that would be my first choice.

    All parts have good black and white guards. Gold is always an option and if you want something a bit off piste check out wd music

    Thanks for that, I'll get searching! The gold one, as much as I like them won't really work for the silver / blue colour I've got planned :)

    A parchment guard arrived today from Singapore (eBay special).

    Looks much better than the green, more of a dull/old white, happy enough for £14.50 anyway! I'll need to do a bit of trimming round the thimble cut outs, but that's fine. Jap trem on order from Rich Tone music too :)
