Question for A/V boffs - Sky tv in more than one room

jonevejoneve Frets: 1474
ok, I no I could pay extra for asks Multi room, but does anyone know if it's possible to have a skyHD box in one room, connected to a TV, then have it feed into another tv in another room downstairs (directly underneath), yet still being able to control from second room? I understand both TVs will show same sky feed, this is fine, but I'd like a HD feed to both TVs if possible. I have a feeling this isn't Possible, but any suggestions welcome!

cheers!

You can get a TV link that uses rf leads, so no hd. You can use a second controller to change channels from other room. I don't think a hd version is possible because the remote controller signal goes back up the RF cable to do the channel changes.

You'd need to buy a second controller though and proper sky ones are expensive.

Not an option unfortunately as my internet is terribly slow.

Doesn't the new Sky Q give you that ability with some kind of wi-fi mini box? Upgrading to that is probably the way to go.

that aside you would need to run 2 HDMI feeds from the one output and split them to each TV to get the HD and I have no idea if that's possible. Even if it was that wouldn't give you repeat controls.

There are loads of extender systems that'll split an HDMI to a local loop out (for the first telly) and a CATx out for the second telly, and most include IR extension 'cos they all use the same chipset.

You can send this signal to as many TVs as you want, just need a coax amp in the loft, magic eye at each to job done. Same channel on every TV.

HDMI splitters can be had cheap (although the couple I've used have been a bit fussy about cables, the order things are plugged in etc).
You don't need a remote repeater though, just use the app on your phone. It's a much better interface than the shit one on the box anyway.

HDMI splitters might work then...I'll take a look. Cheers for the input guys.

Can't find it on their website but there's a Sky extra room kit in the Screwfix catalogue, page 366. Remote, digi eye, 15 metre cable, splitter, plugs and clips, all for £30.

Surprised that the new Sky Q box that you put in the second TV room doesn't do 4k - only the main box does.

How many people have multiple 4K screens? Some, certainly, but more likely people will have one 4K in the living room and a handful of HD ones elsewhere. This way the mini box needs much less processing power, and doesn't need HDCP2.2.
