  • Confirmation of a live e-mail account and postcode. Cue ads from everyone they sell your details to, at a guess. Pay-per-click bait.

I only get ads on social media from the places I actually shop at and have given my e-mail to. Evans cycles, Ribble, etc. I'm fine with that as I get discounts and shizz. Never get anything from one's I've sacked as spam.

  • The other one to watch for is the text where you get an ebay message (usually when genuinely selling) and its a scam ebay that takes your password and details

  • I had one saying I'd started a direct debit with iTunes of 30 quid per month. If this is incorrect, click here...

They also said my name was Emily.

  • I also report the occasional one to the fraud service. They actually want you to - it lets them see upcoming threats and new ways people are attempting to be conned.

I get the same from Argos and Amazon. "Your postcode has been selected"....delete!
I would love to change my username, but I fully understand the T&C's (it was an old band nickname). So please feel free to call me Dave.

I also got one from the National Lottery last Sunday, saying some gibberish along the lines of 'You have matched six numbers! You have won a prize to the sum of £5.2 million! Please ring this number for instruyadda yadda yadda'.

    Lucky escape that one!

That your weekend name then?  ;)

I always sign up to business sites with a throwaway email address. 90% of the spam goes into that account and keeps my "proper" account pretty clear.

This.  What's worse is when price comparison sites want your email before they will compare for you.  There are several sites where I've used dummy@dummymail.com
