Presumably you do give a f*ck though Drew?

You chose to share your thoughts - which inherently suggests you care what the people of this forum think.....

Your in a band (aren't you?) so presumably care about how that goes?

And most importantly - your family and friends.......

Sorry, I can't comment any further. I've been embargoed by the official tFB Thought Police.
    I don't remember doing that.

Maybe I erased my own memory by mistake....
lol, are you outting yourself as the fretboard thought polizia ??

I do. I'm hanging on by my fingernails,  but I do. I think you can manufacture your own positivity but I know that can be hard without support.

Pfftt... who needs support when you've got bellends on a forum psycho-analysing you without any knowledge about you whatsoever!?!

Nope not really. Life is properly depressing if you start to care about what happens. Better to let the shit not stick.

@Drew_TNBD I think the issue with our generation is it's too easy to give a fuck; we know (pretty much) what is going around the world instantly, and get horrific images beamed straight to our phones. We know what all our friends and family are up to.

I see a lot of people giving a fuck about a lot of stuff, but I don't see many people DOING anything.

Give less fucks. Do more stuff.

There is a dissociative element to it though.
We hear stuff that happens but we don't experience it.
Hearing about a terrorist attack on the news is a vastly different emotional experience to witnessing the same terrorist attack.
I actually think people manufacture a large percentage of the emotion that is presented in response to this stuff.
When I heard about Bataclan, for example, I knew it was a big deal, I knew it was a massive thing but in terms of my actual emotional response... no, not a whole lot.

I *knew* I should have felt more than I actually did.
So either I'm a psychopath, or perhaps this is a transferable emotional state- the emotional numbness of hearing about things 3rd hand, feeling as though you should feel a certain way about it and then manufacturing the social presentation of that emotion to somehow fit in.

In all honesty I've felt worse about relatively minor things that I've experienced (the breakdown of a relationship, crashing a relatively cheap motorcycle) than the wholesale slaughter of people I've never met.

    Modern life is weird.

When I first heard about that, my response was "surprise surprise" .... I wasn't all that shocked.

When I found out about some of the things the terrorists did, I got angrier and angrier:

  • I used to be really into politics and news but for years now I just haven't been bothered. Same with lunch time discussion at work which centres on those things, or peoples' opinions on "big" matters, like it's going to change anything. I tend to go for a walk instead, get some exercise. If I am at the lunch table, I'm telling jokes and just trying to get on with people.

Ever see Into the Wild? I believe in the ending, about how it's the people in your life who you share moments with that is the most important.

I used to think I gave a fuck,  but the whole social media types projecting their "feelings"  on every damn piece of tat fed to them by the news agencies made me realise that I don't, just like most of those don't, they mostly just pretend to, or at least kid themselves that they do.
I only give a fuck about my family and my kids and the path they choose into their futures.
