Fell off ladder whilst giving wysteria its annual short back & sides - cut face, not much more than bruised ego.

Then fell off again, far worse - landed on 6 ft fence panel (from 10ft or so) - this time massive bruise on waist, and badly bruised ribs.

first time - incompentent, second time (probably incompetent again) ladder shifted under me and gravity took over.

Big hurtees today, not a lot of sleep last night anguished
Imagine something sharp and witty here ......

My worst gardening accident was when I was using a chainsaw to trim an overgrown bush. As I was walking along with it, concentrating on cutting enough but not too much at about face-level....I hit my shin on a stone garden ornament bird bath. Don't worry nothing else happened but because I kept upright and avoided a slip with the chainsaw I went full speed into the birdbath and it caned!

Learn how to use a ladder. It's not rocket science!

Using a ladder isn't dangerous. Falling off a ladder isn't dangerous either. The sudden impact with the ground is, however.

I walked full pelt into an old oak tree in the dark after too much ale a few months back and scabbed my forehead right up, did the exact same thing on a 25 metre odd tall mature black poplar a week later which caused my lip to split my lip open.

I put all these things are down to over confidence or tiredness.

Life's much more fun when you don't learn any lessons anyway.

One day someone will probably leave a tractor out with the silage forks at half mast and I won't be around anymore.

Ladders slipped from underneath me when trimming a large conifer once and I fell in a Pyracantha! Worst of it was the the ladders came down and wedged between two boughs and pinned me on the prickles until my dozy partner could come out and help after what seemed hours of yelling out...

  • Sounds like you need to invest in scaffolding not a ladder. Or hire Inspector Gadget.

Get well soon! I love my wisteria, for the scent it gives us for about 2 days every year. Usk prison is so posh it has a really nice old wisteria climbing along the walls. How lovely for the prisoners, when they get out!
