Neck crack/scratch repair advice?

I've got an Epiphone Casino that I bought with my first pay packet back in 1986 and it has developed a kind of crack in the back of the neck just where it meets the headstock. In fact there a a couple of cracks running horizontally across the finish. I'm not especially worried that the headstock is going to snap off as it's been like it for at least ten years but I'd like to have a go at fixing it or at least making it less noticeable. It's got a black shiny finish up at the top of the neck. Can anyone suggest a DIY fix for this. I thought about sanding it but I would then have to refinish it in some way. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I could refinish it using a nitro blending method I use to great effect but honestly, to try and explain what I'd do would be quite difficult. If you haven't done it before you'd run the risk of making it look worse. It's all about 'filling' the crack with nitro and then levelling and buffing it perfectly afterwards but you have to be extremely careful. I only attempt things like it as I used to be a full time spray painter and still have everything I need at my disposal whenever I need it.
If you are however up for it let me know and I'll tell you what you need to do.

  • Thanks @Deadman but I have no skills or experience or tools. Unless there is a repairs for beginners answer then I will probably just leave it alone.
