Did myself a little Ikea-hack today to put in a second tier on my desk. Pretty pleased with the results! Couldn't resist fitting some LED spotlights too. The Obie has pride of place, too.

Ha. Just a shelf, some steel legs meant for some of their other furniture, and 4 spotlights.

Feel free! Shelf was a tenner, legs £6 for all 4, lights £20. Job done.

A weirdly wobbly panorama of the room I'd be pretty happy to be sealed into. The cat spends most of her time in there avoiding my children.

Nice - depressingly clutter/cable-free.

At the moment, I'm mostly crawling around under a desk and around the back of a cabinet, while trying not to garotte myself on various cables. Perhaps if I got a cat it would sort things out for me...

Not as much as I'd like, but probably as much as I could expect as someone with a full time job, a wife and two very small children.

I did the same trick once: used a LACK side table, and sawed the legs down to 3 inches long

I'd recommend using Auralex foam under the speakers,  the shelf is likely to pick up a lot of  vibrations

I used a shelf from B&Q and some door stops. Can't seem to post a picture which is probably just as well as it looks a bit rough compared to yours and a lot of it is obscured by empty bottles.
