You didn't mention the thing about forgetting what you're doing halfway through the solo and drifting gradually but inevitably out of time, tune and key. ;)

He brings that as a jazzy element to his playing.

nice! The kitrae interview you mentioned is also very good. I'll see Dinosaur at the end of the month. Memo to myself: don't forget the earplugs, don't forget the earplugs! I'm really looking forward to the show but honestly, i'd prefer he'd use his studio setup live. I love the sounds he gets by using smaller wattage amps combined with his pedals. But hey, he's a dinosaur and somewhere he explained the choice of 3 stacks of Hiwatt/Marshall amps: If it worked for Hendrix, it's fine now...

  • I saw Dino Jr on their first tour after the original line up reformed.

J M with his long grey hair nonchantly played solo after solo, each more majestic than the last with his old battered Jazzmaster rested on his big fat belly.

For my money he's one of the most under appreciated guitarists/musicians for his era, not only can he rip with solos with the best of them for speed but the composition of his solos are very characteristic; they are stories/songs in their own right for their structures.  Then there's his rhythm playing and singing, which are really fantastic to my ears and very characteristic again.

Dino Junior are a band I never tire of listening to.

Well, cheers for having a read. Looks like I may be doing some more of these in the very near future.

So if anyone has any suggestions for players I can cover, feel free to let me know.

If I could ask JM one question it would be...

Easy. Restrict yourself to seven words per hour when speaking, ensuring at least 75 seconds pass between words.

Buy 100 pedals and turn them all on. Play through a cranked marshall stack.
Get an offset and abuse it with tape in all possible places you can. After this pick a chord, any chord, it doesn't matter due to the level of effects all over the guitar. After strumming grab the arm of the vibrato unit and yank on it like sailor trying to steer a rudder in a storm
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

Shreds so hard on acoustic too.

What a strange ordeal to put an acoustic through.

That sounded horrible. A bit like those buskers who go all equipped with a huge board and put it through a battery powered street amp.
