WTB - Epi Sheraton

I saw an '86 at the Crewe guitar show which I liked the look of - 375 notes - but it had a dodgy neck angle on it, and no TR cover - along with a bunch of other issues so I avoided. But I do think I want one.

Preference is sunburst, and '89 to '95 Samick - or maybe a late 90's Peerless (unless someone has a Jap they want to get rid of?) Def. pre Chinese tho.

Not fussed on condition - I know the HW will be tarnished and happy if it's been beaten about. Just so long as it has no issues, plays well and sounds ok.

'86 sounds early, thought the modern reissues were a few years later than that, the first of which had the Epiphone by Gibson headstocks. I had an '89 I think which had dropped the by Gibson legend and had the horrible faux tortoise scratch plate. It was a cracking guitar though.

First Samick ones were 86 87 ish - variable as well in quality. By 89 they had sorted them out. The early ones did have the Epiphone by Gibson logo - this moved to Gibson on the TRC

I had a 88' Epi by Gibson in the dark tobacco burst. Was a heavy lump, chunky neck and stupidly get rid of it about 5 years ago. I didn't know enough about guitars then.  Had an early 2000 Chinese dot which was pretty good (now gone).
Now have a Chinese sheraton in natural, slim taper D' neck.its a great guitar, don't think it's going anywhere, will change the pickups eventually. ..If you are stuck on a Korean that's your bag, but mine is a great player, set up with 11' gauge strings. .  Bought it for £250 with original packaging and like brand new !     :-)

Mine is an April 2005 made in the Unsung factory.  Built like a battleship and only very light wear on the sunburst finish.

Wasn't sure what you'd seen so thought I'd flag a few for you.  Interestingly there's a couple there that have 'Epiphone by Gibson' rather than just 'Epiphone', on the headstock.  They only did this for a couple of years (1986-1988) to emphasise the Gibson connection.  I don't think this makes them any more valuable currently but you never know, perhaps in the future.

It's added about £150-200 to that one on the furry grey rug!

I had a circa 89/90 Samick one in Natural. Very solidly built in comparison to a later Samick Dot I owned. Sold the Sheraton because I got bored with the colour (I know), but the Tobacco Sunburst ones look rather nice!

I had a Tobacco burst one with set of Seth Lovers in it, oh my gosh such toneage.....sold it, dont know why.

The older ones had fret nibs, which is cool.

Make sure that the bridge is okay as the post spacing is non-standard and they are made from unobtainium. I had a new one (the last in captivity?) in my parts drawer but recently fitted it to a guitar.

@SteveRobinson Is the bridge spacing a bit wider than normal?

I seem to recall that's it's 73mm rather than 74mm on virtually everything else. The later ones have a narrower standard spaced bridge.
