sorry to bother, but ive just got a marshall jcm 2000 dsl50 and a jcm 900 lead 1960a 4X12 cab and having always being a user of combos im confused as to how to hook them up as there seems to be a few options (mono, stereo etc) ive included photos of the backs of them both. ive tried the head at both 4 and 8 ohms with the cable on either side selected as mono but im getting nothing from the cab, do i have to have 2 parallel cables for it to work or should it still work with the 1 cable? or could something be wrong with my cab? any help would be much appreciated (the simpler the better haha)   https://goo.gl/photos/R351rUU2ngv6Jcb28

  • In mono, use the use the 4 or 16 ohm socket to match to the amp. In stereo, use 8 ohm setting on either side

Connect the 16-ohm jack on the amp to the 16-ohm jack on the cab (right hand jack as you look at it) and make sure the switch is set to mono.

If you still get no sound there's something wrong with the cab switching (assuming the amp is working into a different cab) - the switch panels on these cabs are notorious for it and a cause of blown amp transformers. The DSL amps also have a design fault which can make them risky to run at 8 or 4 ohms, so only use 16 if you can.

If the cab needs to be fixed, remove the whole PCB, fit two standard panel jacks wired in parallel and hardwire the speakers for 16 ohms - safer and more reliable.

  • Make sure you're using a proper speaker cable too, not a guitar lead...

And make sure the speaker lead is plugged in both ends before switching on. Obvious but such a common error. Even after decades of playing.
