My DRRi65 for Princeton Reverb/smaller wattage amp

Hi all,

A feeler here; I can't get my deluxe reverb loud enough to sound good where I play so looking for a smaller amp. Looking for a PRRi or another smaller wattage amp, as long as its Fender...open to all offers!

Thank you

John

  • Assuming you want more o/d etc, why not just change the first two preamp valves to 12AT7 for lower gain in the front end? That way you'll need to increase the volume control getting you closer to power amp distortion - you could even go one step more and use 12AU7 valves. Perfectly safe but might need a re-bias. I'm told that whilst this lowers the gain, it can end up drawing more current and creating more distortion. You could even use a lower rated speaker for a bit more speaker distortion.

You'd need a good specialist valve amp tech to advise you properly but all these are safe, easily reversed mods.

Another option would be a suitable attenuator between the speaker and amp. Again, you can turn the amp as loud as you want but keep the decibels low enough to be ear friendly.

Yeah, I would second the attenuator.  I use one at home and take it away when at band practice/gigs.  I may have a spare Weber Minimass 50w, which is what I use with my DRRI 65.  If you are interested.  Let me know and I'll take a look.
