  • Ah, the smell of a new Gibson, smells like....victory!

my 2016 Custom Shop R8 still smells sweet, bought it in March and has hung on the wallhanger since, not sure how long that winning smell lasts, but enjoy while it's there.

    Good man!
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

My 2012 LP studio still smells great. any one know what they use for that smell?

  • My LP Classic still has the smell and that must be 14 years old, the 89 country gent (gibson version) I acquired recently still has it a bit too.

It's the glue from the case.
If you buy a Gibson with a gig bag it doesn't have it, if you buy a Gibson case which has never contained a guitar it does have it.

Sorry to kill the nitro romance :)

But to be fair, the old glue they used to use in the '50s was much better than the glue they use now. Too many plasticisers in it. If anybody wants their modern reissue case changed for the proper glue, I'm just up the road from the beach in Weston-S&M and know where they keep the donkeys overnight, if you see what I mean ;)

Mine came in a gig bag, and smells of vanilla...

When you go around air museums and go into old passenger jets, there's a very distinctive smell. It's the glue used in the interior- same stuff.

Yes my brief flirtation with a 2016 Gibson is best remembered by the sweet smell. It's the nitro I would have thought not the glues as gassage said?

My fender custom shop has a nice sweet smell to it
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.
