US Election. When will the result be known?

What's Hot
Just curious really.

Obviously pending any accusations of voter fraud.

I wonder if the early votes are tallied on vote day or if they're already known

Telegraph reckons early morning the following day, our time:

Assuming of course that Trump doesn't throw his toys out of the pram and cry foul if it looks like he'll lose. He's already claimed that the vote will be rigged, and doesn't appear to have it in him to concede graciously.

I looked this up in the last few days and found this one to be pretty good. Florida, which has the most electoral seats can take days (sometimes weeks) to declare but most places are saying stay up till about 1am for a good indication.

    Who lol'd that?

In the US election you can vote in advance in some places... heck some of those places allow you to change your mind right up to election day (Trump was encouraging people to do just that after the second round of emails came out)

    I did.

I know that some places let you change your vote and some allow early voting.

But it was far funnier when read the other way.

    So, ner ner ner!

  • Wait the US is between 5 and 7 hours behind us.
if the poles close at 10pm on Tuesday night that is about 5am Wedenesday morning. Factor is count time (12 hours?) then it would be Wednesday evening hour time before the results are known

The US covers six different time zones (including Alaska and Hawaii), and polling office times vary from state to state (most close at 7/8pm local time). The winner is decided by the number of electoral college votes rather than a pure percentage of the vote, so it's quite possible (in theory at least) for one candidate or other to have reached the number of electoral college votes they need before polls close in the last states.

The timing of the announcement depends on so many factors that it's impossible to predict very accurately- turnout, counting time, trends in early results, then whatever each camp does as the night goes on (mostly how ridiculous Trump gets if he looks like losing)- but the Telegraph article I linked to earlier suggests no earlier than 4AM GMT.

Giuliani is currently on Twitter asking people to tweet their favourite Trump quotes.

It is not going as he intended.... :D

I don't know. You watch shit like The West Wing and House Of Cards and you get the impression that even behind the biggest fuckwits there are smart people who know how to work the system to their advantage. Clearly just telly.

No. But, they felt the majority would go that way.
