Another Hitler comparison, since there have been many recently...

What's Hot
quarkyquarky Frets: 2777
1933 - Freedom of expression in the press attacked by Nationalist Socialists after the Reichstag fire.
2016 - Freedom of expression in the press attacked by socialists, and Lego pressured to stop advertising with the Daily Hate.

What happen to "‘I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"?

  • It's a newspaper. The media should tell us what has happened, in a professional, truthful and ethical way. They all fail in one way or another, these days.

Very true, but we have legal ways in this country to deal with incitement. Lefties wanting to curtain freedom of expression is what happened in 1933. Why can't we use the laws and regulations that have served for decades?

You're right. The move to a largely on-line readership has seen a lot of the old print press pandering to their base demographic in a really crude way. It's depressing the way that the internet and social media, which promising so much in terms of audience interaction and freedom of expression are being used in this way.

Describing the Nazi party as "left wing" is one of the most ludicrous things anyone has ever posted on this forum.

I guess so. I mean, they called themselves socialists (and not just in party name), they were against Anglo-saxon capitalism and the free market, they were authoritarian, they were strong proponents of state control rather than liberal individualism, etc.

You're correct and I don't know why there's no appetite for it. Except...  look what happened last week. The Mail and Express went apeshit and UKIP suggested we made political appointments to the higher judiciary.

    This in spades.

  • Your history is shaky. What happened was:

1933 - Extreme right wing press attacks independent judges, calling them "enemies of the people".
2016 - Extreme right wing press attacks independent judges, calling them "enemies of the people".

I think anyone has had more than a cursory look at Nazi policies will immediately place them on the left. Hitler, maybe "slightly" less so. It was just based round perceived ethnicity rather than class (with Stalin's socialism).

The Daily Mail still has the freedom. Lego have just stopped supporting it.

They haven't tried to interfere with editorial decisions, just won't give them money.

    Very different.

Usual BBC bollocks - why use the word 'democracy' in this item, except to be brazenly sensationalist? Democracy is not at risk just because people didn't vote the way you wanted them to, you stupid BBC twats...

Slippery slope. It is the "we know better" brigade, thinking "we know better" and trying to bring financial pressure on sections of the press, simply because they don't like the content. Because exercising their freedom of choice to not buy is obviously not enough. What happened to liberalism?

So, as I said, Hitler was not left wing. Thank you for backing that up.

So Arsenal FC have a massive stash of weapons?

Your other arguments are about authoritarianism vs liberalism, not about left vs right. There is a rather important difference.
