Thoughts on this acoustic sound

It's been a while since I did any recording so I've been playing around with Logic this evening.

How does this sound?

Sounds good dude....now you just have to do the whole song !....sounds like you will be entering ROTM now ?

Theres a great plugin called Lo Air from Waves.....adds a real Low end to acoustic guitars.

my acoustic always sounds a bit boxy, and I think its down to my mic.

what mic are you using then?

What you're hearing there is my Takamine EF261S recorded from the built-in pickup into Logic X through a Firestudio Mobile, with an impulse response of a Taylor 314ce recorded with a Neumann U87 applied, plus a bit of reverb.

Sounds pretty good, huh?

aha! Yes, it sounds very good. Balanced well, just the right amount of reverb.

Which is making me all the more disappointed with my own acoustic recordings. Made even more frustrating as my acoustic guitar is a very good one.

I have worked as a sound engineer in the past, and have a degree in Electroacoustics, so I like to think I have a decent pair of ears

Funnily enough I thought it sounded a bit 'Taylor' - I don't mean that negatively btw.

You're right - it sounds excellent.

How are you recording it?

From where do you get the impulse response through a Neumann U87 component? Is that part of Logic X or a separate plugin?

I googled and found a bunch of IRs recorded with various mics.

Sounds nice man. I like my acoustics a bit artificially wide so would've used a wider stereo pair and then stretched it further in the mix.

It sounds great though, especially for not being mic'd.
