Stabbed at work

Yep, last night. A kid comes running down the corridor, a flash of steel and stabbed me in the stomach, went right through my coat. IF I hadn't have twisted my body he would have stuck me with it, however, luckily my twisting made it miss me by literally millimeters. So I could deck him until support came, which thankfully it did in seconds, scary stuff which to be honest hasn't sunk in yet. I'm not going in tonight.

It's a residential high school, very challenging kids who've been shifted from one care home to another, great kids, they're just fucked up.

I have a friend who has a similar sounding job. Heard some right tales, literally leaves me speechless sometimes!

That's understandable! Glad to hear you're ok though. I've worked with people who are challenging for over 20 years and had some very close shaves but nothing quite as life threatening as that. If I was your manager, I'd advise some time off and some counselling to fully come to terms with it. I don't know if you can get that through your OH dept. but trust me it's extremely helpful.

Jeez, that seems crazy.  

The only occupational hazard I have is getting a paper cut.  Really brutal paper cuts though.

Quite a long time ago now but I got assaulted at work, not hurt very badly but a bunch of bruises. At the time I dealt with it with no problem, quite in control of the situation (well, as much as I could be with someone throwing furniture at me ). The bit were I felt shaken up came much later. So, look after yourself, make sure you get any time off you can, don't feel the need to get right back on the horse.

Kudos to you for trying to help turn these troubled kids around.  Very few people have the patience or compassion to do that kind of job.
