Here's Vertex's volume pedal. Does this look like a BOSS FV-500 to you?

He's been doing that one for ages. IIRC he just unwires the two pots on the side, making it much less useful.

Whenever an ad mentions "organic tone" you know it's going to be bollocks, especially for a volume pedal that isn't supposed to do anything to your sound.

I like the way there's a photo of the insides. There's bugger all in there. He's charging more for less.
He's given new meaning to the expression 'less is more'.

But then that begs the question of who is buying one of these over the Boss original!

Whether or not you buy into the mods, there isn't anything misleading in the ad.  It clearly says it's a Boss pedal and that they are selling it as a modded version of a Boss pedal.  I wonder how Boss feel about them putting their logo on it over theirs?

The problem there is you hadn't paid the $130 for the privilege.  Your ears  wouldn't have needed to convince yourself that you've spent wisely and therefore  you couldn't detect the change.
