I have a mac harddrive sitting in an enclosure next to me that I need to recover some data off of. It was replaced when the OS wouldn't load on the mac, so presumably the data is still sitting on it, just with the bad sectors sitting on the OS portion of the disk.
Obviously it uses a different format to the windows PC I need to use to recover the data. Is anyone aware of a way I can force the windows PC to recognise the HDD (It doesn't pop up when plugged in) and then recover the data?
looking to do this without actually spending any money ideally!
If the HDD was plugged into a mac, would it be possible to just drag and drop the files?
I've no use for the enclosure so would happily give the whole thing back to my friend to use as an external HDD if it would work in that manner.

I would have thought that it should recognise that there is a hard drive there even if it can't read the content, and offer to format it for you. If it's not doing that then it could be completely dead.
