Up for grabs is an Ivison Guitars '59 DC Junior.

Basically this guitar is a clone of my old '59 Gibson DC Junior. I was intending to start making some high end Junior and Special replicas with a luthier friend of mine but unfortunately, after many months of getting the details absolutely spot on to a point where I was happy to proceed...he has now decided to retire so the project has stalled!

@scalino65 has the 'sister' guitar to this one and was kind enough to review his on the forum last year: http://www.thefretboard.co.uk/discussion/80611/miserneil-luthier-dc-junior#latest ;

I was intending to keep this one as it was the 'working prototype 001' but I am pretty much in P90 overload currently and work is looking patchy for 2017 at the moment so I need to free up some cash.

So, as I said before, body and neck have been 'cloned' from a genuine 1959 DC Junior. The specs are:

One Piece African Mahogany Body
One Piece African Mahogany Neck
Indian Rosewood Fingerboard
Genuine Celluloid dots
Bone Nut
100% Nitrocellulose finish in Aged Goldtop
Mojo Handwound P90
CTS TVT Pots, Bumblebee Cap & Switchcraft Jack

Hardware is all 'Art of Ageing' including:
Aged Kluson Tuners & Bushs
Aged Black TopHat Knobs
Aged Pointers
Aged 'Mojoaxe' clone Compensated Tailpiece
Aged Vintage Length Studs & Anchors
Aged Strap Buttons
Jack Surround

Aged Plastics were cut from a genuine 50's guard as a template.

Fingerboard has been gently rolled so it feels like a well played vintage guitar.

Weights in at 7.05lbs!

I would describe it as a NOS finish currently, if they buyer wants a lightly aged/lacquer checked finish, I can add this at no extra cost.

I was/am (when I get it off the ground) aiming to retail these guitars around £1650.

Therefore for this 100% hand built 'prototype' I am asking £850 SOLD firm for a quick sale which also includes a Hiscox Case. Happy to ship too.

  • Putting your own name on the headstock is a hugely intelligent and cool thing to do, Bravo on that and the guitar too.

Best of luck in your endeavours Neil;  having seen your work, luck will only be a tiny part of it.

  • As Neil has said, I have one of his just like this. If If it helps anyone out who's thinking about the gold one but can't get up to Neil's to try it, but you're near Kingston then you're welcome to try mine out. Neil, I assume neck profile, etc is the same? Cheers. Will. P.s. I love mine so if you're tempted just get it!

@AlexHunter Alex, the neck is modelled off my old '59 DC Junior so has the very comfortable '59 shape and is approx. 22.5mm at the first fret. The fret wire is the same as a modern Gibson.
