Making a neck issue?

I have a block of wood that I plan to make a neck out of. I have done a specific headstock shape that I want to use, but it only just fits onto the wood. It's basically a six on one side shape and the top point and diagonally opposite bit are pretty much on the edges of the wood so not much room to work with. It would 'fit' better if I angled the whole neck so it wasn't 100% straight aligned with the grain - would that matter?

I've never seen it done and from a structural perspective I probably wouldn't attempt it.

Its a no from me, 100% aligned with the grain will always be the preferable option.   you can always increase the width of the headstock using off cuts from the neck blank at a later stage.   You cant really increase the length without splicing

Thanks both. It was a bit of a dumb question that I knew the answer to, but you know how you are hoping that someone may say something else ....

I'd like to try it at some stage just to see how badly wrong it goes.
