I'm in the market for a new amp. It needs have a a decent marshallesque rythmn channel, and something for leads, either a 2nd channel or a decent boost.

i gravitate towards big single channel rock heads , (like the 2203) but I find that although they sound fantastic with a boost pedal in front, they lack a little flexibility when used as a lead guitar amp.

any ideas ? I'm looking for something decent quality, reliable , not too pricey and not too complicated .

Mesa Stiletto is the one. The ace version would be my first choice but the deuce or trident will also be great.

  • The 100w EVH in the classifieds right now for £750 with flightcase.
Its all the amp you ever ever need.

    Huge gain, switchable, 3 channels.
    Do it.
    Do it now!!!!

If you like the JCM800 2203 then try the JCM900 SLX. They're an evolution of the 2203 with an extra preamp valve for more gain and a second, footswitchable, master volume which is great for solo's. Think there's few kicking around fleabay at the moment going for around £400.

  • You just described a Jet City JCA22H or JCA50H. Probably the simplest two-channel amps around, dirt cheap, rock solid reliable and sound great.

I'd try the Stiletto, the crunch mode on the clean channel is pretty much the 800 sound. Plus you still have another channel and a solo boost! I love mine, it's a great amp.

The SLX is a very different amp from the other 900's in the range.

@digitalscream is on the money with the JetCity's

id still have the EVH tho........

  • I've now wols my jcm800 and cab, so I'll be lookign to replace it soon ish.

I'll likely be looking 2nd hand, and have narrowed it down to , low, mid and high end options thanks to your help.

Low cost - 2nd hand Marshall DSL100. I regularly see these for sale locally at around £300 locally.

Medium - 2nd hand Mesa Stiletto duece - Seen locallish for around £800

High end - 2nd hand Bogner 20th anniversary. For sale locally for around £1300

I have tried neither of these amps, and am open to suggestions.

  • Orange amps sound good and punchy: would any of them do the job, an AD30, maybe?

I've owned a few orange amps, and although I love them, I find their midrange punch a bit warm for this.

Out of those 3 the Bogner if it is the 20th anniversary Shiva or XTC.
    They are both amazing amps.
I'd have an XTC again- they are stonking amps.

Stiletto is a great amp as well.
