Dave Edmunds once said he spent most of the 1970s trying to make his 1959 335 sound like a Telecaster for his 50s inspired licks...

TBH, a Tele is period correct and sounds epic.

  • Tele will get you there, its all about the slapback

Guilds are a nice alternative to Gretsch

+1 for Guild, although I mainly use a Tele or Strat for rockibilly gigs if I need to look the part I use this Guild, it's amazingly well built and set up for the money :

  • I have a Peavey Rockingham. Mine is Chinese-made, but I hear they were previously made by Peerless who also did an identical Electromatic. The Peavey has a genuine Bigsby, whereas many others in the same price range don't

I'm loving my Guild M75 Aristocrat. Fully hollow, but no F holes, so the feedback is more manageable than most.

Good call for the Reverend stuff. There's a few cool semis and I thin the signature Pete Anderson is a true hollowbody. I got a Reverend Manta Ray and it's a cracking guitar that really covers a lot of ground as well.

Another shout for the Guild X175b ! Great sound and a joy to play, also not had any feedback issues at pretty high volumes.
