I think you'd have to be a massive fan to want that guitar, because, with the best will in the world it looks a right dog with the gaping pick up holes.

Just my personal opinion mind, and largely irrelevant because I will never have the money to get one!

That would be me but without 9k to spare.

As mentioned, if you want one that bad, with a little patience you can pick up an original '63 Jet Firebird in excellent condition for under 5K and do the mods yourself... if they matter that much to you. Way more satisfying and satisfactory result than buying a new imitation for 10K.! IMO of course!

And for less there are many great builders who would build you one from scratch.

True, but personally would still prefer to be holding an original '63 in my hands ;)

It's worth paying the extra just to not destroy a piece of beautiful guitar history if you ask me
    Stop crying, start buying

I think they've all sold already despite our protestations.
With fierce guitar collectors out there like John5 and Joe Bonamassa, I wouldn't be surprised.

At $10,000 you might buy 2 originals and mod them yourself..!!
Anyhoo, if there is anyone genuinely after one of the original Gretsch 6131 - SMY Malcolm Young I signatures, let me know as I may just let mine go at the right price (no giveaways or silly offers mind, don't need to sell!) - all original including case, although I did strip the horrible tone-killing polyurethane off the body/neck years ago. It's the natural finish (non flame) with 'high sensitive filtertron' bridge pickup only, bought new around about 2001/2

how much would you let this go for??????

Tough one - somewhat torn as not entirely convinced I really want to part with it, so would have to be a price I couldn't refuse. That wouldn't be less than £1,500 for sure...

It's crazy money, and I could never afford it. But it is a seriously cool looking guitar!

Perception is a funny business - if this hadn't been the main axe used by a famous artist such as Malcolm I suspect the usual reaction to a much-hacked vintage instrument with 2 empty pickup cavities, obviously covered holes everywhere, missing/replaced original parts and modifications galore, including original finish gone....would typically be negative to say the least. Associated with a 'superstar guitarist' suddenly it becomes worthy of a 'heavyweight price tag' regardless of almost all other criteria...

@Marshall I get what you are saying, but even without the connection I still think it looks really cool. Not that type of money cool though LOL

Aside from an ultra dedicated and rich AC DC tribute player, you'd have to be downright nuts to pay £10k for this.
I started out with nothing..... but I've still got most of it left (Seasick Steve)

Quite so...ironically it's exactly the opposite of what Malcolm did..but then that's celebrity, fame, signature guitars etc etc...
