Using this 2x10 combo amp as a cab - could this work

Hi all,

Bit of an odd question. I really like the potential of the new orange Rocker 32 (basically a 30 watt stereo 2x10 combo with loop) - sounds like a really nice one-box stereo amp for rehearsing/s mall gigs.

However I have also been looking for a cab that was relatively small and would suit my Orange retro 50 hand wired amp. In terms of size, these would be perfect for each other - but would it be possible to sometimes use the combo as a 2x10 cab (with the Retro 50), and at other times use the combo on its own?

Any help would be much appreciated - thanks in advance!

Here is a pic of the speaker section on the back of the amp - any thoughts?

Yes, assuming that each speaker is rated at 25W or higher - it almost certainly will be. You will also need to know the impedance of them - Orange amps usually use 16 ohms, which is fine since it will give a combined load of 8 ohms which the Retro will take. If they're 8 you will need a way of connecting them in series.

You'll also most likely need a way of extending the cables anyway - the easiest is to make a box with three jacks all in parallel, which you plug the two speakers into and then connect to the amp. If the speakers need to be in series you just need to wire the box differently.

+1 To making a jack box. With the exception of the Nuky locking types, cable jack sockets are inventions of the devil and prone to intermittency...NOT what you want in a valve amp speaker circuit!

I would also suggest the box is made of ABS not metal as it can then be "put about" with impunity.

Yes, and there's no need for shielding in a speaker circuit so no reason to use metal.
