    Planet Waves Black Ice (heavy)

I played Jazz III XL for years and years then got one of these free at a guitar show. Promptly ordered a bag of 100.

if you like thick Jazz IIIs give one a try
    Red ones are better.

Ultex sharp 2mm. I used .88 Nylons for years, but changed over when I changed my picking style to directional picking. I find having a thicker plectrum helps on the upstrokes. Also, I like the tone of a 2mm plectrum, with the .88s i tended to make scraping sounds too often.

  • Dunlop JD Jazztone207. I prefer thicker picks these days.  These are thick with round edges and produce a nice warm sound.

Yellow or Orange Tortex. Starting to prefer Yellows more.

I tend to use 2 types: TOrtex Orange, or for tight lead, Dunlop Jazz III.

Another one for the Dunlop 0.88mm pile.

Hate the colour though. I put it down to move something and it takes me about three days to find the bloody thing. Luckily I own about a million of them (really a dozen).

  • I've a question from this thread, How do you know when to go up a pic size? I'm still a beginner really and have been using a .38 nylon pic, I have tried a bunch of different sizes but really struggle with anything thicker and I can't seem to get a nice even sound across the strings.
