    If a £15 valve will actually last substantially longer than a £8 one, and behave better in terms of noise and microphonics, then I could see the sense in that. They don't tend to get used hard most of the time in my amp.

    It would seem that the 'gold pin' phenomenon is widely considered to be snake oil, and there is an equal amount of skepticism about anything labelled 'mullard reissue'.

    Beyond that, I still don't feel a lot clearer on what to go for - maybe Tung Sol or EH around the £15 mark?
