Lily Allen

What's Hot
I know...

But! As a break from Flat earth (it IS FLAT! watch the video!) I just wanted to know what you guys think about said artist.
I never really came across her music before, I've heard some of her hits on the radio, but didn't even know who sang those songs.
I have read somewhere on here some very strong  (vulgar) comments about her, so I understand she's not a 'guitarist's favourite' but after quick yt research I think she's not all that bad. Bit explicit but quite musical and some songs have decent beat etc.

So?

I wouldn't kick her out of bed....but I'm not a fan of her music per se.

I like her. She's sexy, has a great voice and a couple of good pop tunes. I think the main problem that some guys may have with her are some of the lyrics which I actually find quite funny. Example:

    ____
"You don't know what you've got till the whole thing's gone. The days are dark and the road is long."

I don't think she'd get into bed with anyone off this forum.

    Yup. Prime example.
Explicit, feminist lyrics but still - funny (not for man with complex) and music is all right. I like it.

  • She can be annoyingly 'frightfully posh' at times which is a shame as she can also be very down to earth at times.

I like her speaking voice, which is attractive to listen to on the radio

  • I really like her.  She is exactly the kind of pop music I quite like hearing - catchy, good music, some really brilliant bass and beats and her voice is wonderful.

I've seen her live, too, and she was fabulous there.

I don't have a problem with her lyrics. And it's something that women can really relate to :) :P

  • I don't like her fringe.
But oddly find Claudia Winklemans insanely fetching.

    Hmmmmm

  • Very fond of her music and her personage. An all-round good'un.

  • Not a fan. Awful singer in my opinion. Not as in she cant sing in tune, but just the way she pronounces the words as if shes trying to be street or something. Missing the end of words off or skipping vowels. Shes a bit like Kate Nash who I also cant stand for the same reason. Sing the full word damn it.

I study and work in London... that common as muck working class voice is not my cup of tea ... I would rather not have it inflicted via music

*edit* just googled her for interviews and she doesn't sound as terrible for spoken word... so is the mockney singing an affectation?

I think she's clever and funny, but not enough to buy her records.

Isn't the main issue people  have with her is the "faux working classness" thing? When she quite obviously comes from a fairly privileged background.
For reference I'm not bothered either way about her.

If you make crap music, you make crap music. I think she comes across as a nice enough person in interviews etc Two different things altogether in my opinion. Not liking someones music is not a stab at them as a person.

And yet, when popular musicians turn out to be bad people it's a reflex to distance yourself from the music...

How many people really "Wanna Be In My Gang" these days?... I mean, you're right, they are two separate things ... You can like Pantera without being a fan of White Supremacy ...

Lilly Allen could be a saint, but I wont start liking mockney accents over soft melodic pop any more or less, much the same way I wont make a judgement about her because she has an affected singing voice - my telephone voice is different to my day-to-day voice, but that doesn't make me a bad person, I'm sure the same is/isn't true of her.

    :)

  • Is the "Mockney" thing still popular?

To answer the main question, I'm not a fan but I don't dislike her either ;)

Why is " frightfully posh " annoying ? ......I speak frightfully " posher"than her and I'm proud of the fact that I had a good education and can articulate myself in the Queen's English using the correct pronouns and good grammar .
Why has this dumbed-down Estuary english become edgy and fashionable ?
What I find annoying is the fact that with a Girls Public School education and a father who is a Shakesperian acTOR and stalwart of the Groucho Club is why she has to put on the ridiculous common Mockney accent with dropped T s and ''innits "

When asked about "keeping up with the Jones's " ...Oscar Wilde replied that he intended to do no such thing and "would far rather drag them down to his level " ..........I think Lilly Allen is the poster-girl for this mentality .
I also despise her Politics and air-headed comfy Cotswold armchair Socialism .Probably lived in a squat at some point ( but only on the right side of Portobello Road /Notting Hill )with other Trustafarian phonies.I have no issue with posh people espousing their social conscience when they have the intellect to support it -in fact Tony Benn ( Lord Stansgate ) was the finest politician to be in the house in the last 40 years but he didn't run around the Commons bars and chambers ,pipe in hand ,shouting " blimey Geezer ,wotcha mate ! "

POSH, COMMON, TORY, COMMIE ........Doesn't matter ,we are all human but just be what you are FFS.
